Small format – More speed, more control
50 L and 100 L barrels for trials, innovation and limited editions — with faster ageing and greater sensory impact.
Greater wood-to-spirit contact. Faster evolution
Small Format Barrels were developed for producers who need faster maturation cycles, greater control on small batches and flexibility for innovation and limited editions. Thanks to the higher spirit-to-wood ratio, they evolve in less time while keeping a premium presentation and finish.
Why they make sense
Faster ageing (more wood/spirit contact), ideal for R&D and experimentation, perfect for limited editions and small batches, and the best logistical efficiency for compact projects.
Bourbon resized in Portugal
100 L Bourbon Cask — first-fill, freshness preserved
100 L barrels produced in-house by resizing 200 L first-fill ex-Bourbon, preserving the freshness and character of the Bourbon profile. Full traceability of origin, complete quality control at the cooperage before dispatch, and the option of production from whiskey casks (subject to availability).
Small Format STR Barrels (50 L & 100 L)
Rejuvenated through STR (Shaved, Toasted & Recharred) in 50 L and 100 L, with several oak origins. The same STR aromatic profile as the large formats, the look of a new barrel, and a more intense, faster evolution — ideal for short cycles, trials and controlled innovation.
Typical applications
Whisky (maturation and finishing)
Rum and cane spirits
Brandy / eaux-de-vie
Innovation batches and special editions
Accelerated maturation projects
STR in small formats
Small Format STR Barrels — 50 L and 100 L
Barrels rejuvenated through the STR process — Shaved, Toasted & Recharred — in 50 L and 100 L capacities, with several oak origins. Visually, they look like new barrels.
Same aromatic profile – More speed
The sensory signature is the same as the larger STR formats. The difference lies in the spirit-to-wood ratio: higher in these formats, which speeds up the evolution of the spirit and intensifies wood activity. Ideal for short cycles, controlled trials and special editions.
How to choose the right format?
The decision starts with the product and the time
The choice between 50 L and 100 L, or between Bourbon and STR, depends on the spirit, the maturation time available and the type of profile sought — more classic Bourbon freshness, or more influence from worked virgin oak.
Tell us the goal for the batch
For maturation or finishing, for R&D or a limited edition, for a classic American profile or a more expressive oak profile — each scenario points to a different combination. We work with you from that goal.
